Throw your devices in the bin, you won’t need them anymore because you have the most captivating entertainment ever put under a circus tent. Move over Cirque Du Soleil, things just got real with “Werk It”.
The sound was truly surround with 90’s tunes cranked to get you in the Fringe-tastic mood. This is the perfect show to get the party started!
“Pump Up the Jam” got everyone excited as the five-person-troupe performed incredible and hilarious acrobatic feats, there was nipple-rubbing, wedgie-pulling and riding one another like a bicycle… oh and fluorescent spandex… SO much fluorescent spandex.
Richard Sullivan and Vincent Van Berkel showed us exactly what stage combat should look like when performing their number “Everybody Hurts”. The dynamic between the two was positively hilarious and the entire audience was hanging on every movement. The transition between pieces is seamless and these performers are clearly seasoned professionals with a skilled director.
The talented Cassia Jamieson shone showing us just how dexterous feet can be. It takes a great deal of strength, balance and skill to deliver on the feats that she performed.
The concepts put together in this show had comedic choreography that incited laughter and the level of talent inspired awe.
This show has to be seen to be believed! One of the many phenomenal acts could only be described as a Jesus-like figure anointing willing audience members with Vegemite like she was Rafiki telling Simba to “Remember who you are” followed by her throwing off the shackles of her workman’s belt and traffic cones to perform some truly stunning arial work as she rode a literal levitating beer keg. Malia Walsh was an absolute star in this show and a hype-Queen. Ultra talented at all aspects of their performance and their audience engagement and characterisation is second to none.
The performers doubled as stage hands, transforming the space and setting up elaborate (and creative) circus equipment seamlessly. The props were well planned and some were even convertible.
Lisa Lottie had the audience transfixed with her hula hoop talents, endless pink glittery hoops were masterfully manipulated and then swung in every which direction. The lighting and audio (which was magnificent throughout) enhanced the performance with circular lighting swirls whenever the hoops were in play. Lisa Lottie’s talent dazzled with pink hoops and rhinestones lighting up the night.
While every performer had individual times to shine their performances were always enhanced by the troupe, it is clear that this collective is truly a team and when they came together to perform a number it was consistently clever, polished, bursting with talent and thrilling to see.
