This local unique production was striking from the time we entered the theatre. A young woman dressed in baggy grey clothes is laying with her back to the audience on a mattress on the floor. This conjured uncertainty and piqued the interest of audience members as they took their seats.

In time we learn that this character is our protagonist and she is counting down the days to the end of her confinement following a murder accusation. She soon has a detective working alongside her actively attempting to solve the case.

For analytical audience members there is a lot to to see in the well-plotted set. Hand-drawn pictures cover the wall and this is also cleverly used as a count down to show the passage of time. The colour scheme is in grayscale and symbolism is used effectively. Very quickly the performers engage in passionate and heightened interactions and the dynamics between the characters are well established.

The lighting was effective in enhancing the scene, the audio supported scene transitions and created the imagery of rooms just outside of the audience’s field of view.

One of the lead characters “O” was a standout when he delivered his recount of the events that lead to the murder. The audience was captivated by the retelling of his inebriated evening. The relationship between the young accused woman and the detective evolved throughout the course of the play and you could feel the frustration that the detective experienced when trying to put together the pieces of this complex puzzle.

The script has cleverly crafted dialogue and throughout the production the audience is kept guessing, for anyone fascinated by murder mysteries with macabre undertones this play will keep you guessing. Can you solve the mystery before time runs out?
