Wicked! Pure comedy gold! Claire Hooper is on fire! Her new stand-up show Sweet Charity is funny and totally relatable. Over the course of an hour, Hooper captivated all of us, weaving a complex sequence of perfectly delivered incidents to do with her family into one long story with some great loopbacks. It is a very entertaining account of the trials of being a fallible forty-something mother, wife, and daughter. She is peppy and adorable in her imperfections, making the audience feel better about themselves by sharing some of her many failures and near misses.

In the show, Hooper takes a poke at Melbourne’s growing ‘inner city left-wing snowflakes’ issuing out ‘trigger warnings’ for mentioning resorting to disposable cups from fast food chains and confesses she is a Greens voter therefore and torn between the idealism of recycling and the practicalities of it. She had the audience in stitches over her description of her preparation for shopping at Farmers' Markets, her feelings about parenting, and her aspirations to do good deeds and make others smile. Her good deed involving the gifting of ‘nuggies’ was a gem. Hooper is a veteran of the comedy circuit and didn’t disappoint, she is professional and proof that you can get better with age; she is glowing. There was an instant easy rapport with the audience, who were all on board. Her style is a little bit naughty but never vulgar, it’s intelligent humour, and she keeps a good pace through out. The room was a mix of ages and genders, and I felt we were united by laughter. I am not a parent and still found it relatable and hilarious and would happily recommend it to my friends. Although it wasn't really for teenagers, anyone 30+ would definitely enjoy it. The tone was upbeat with Hooper exuding positivity and energy; a great show. Sweet Charity is a delight. I would definitely give it a green vote!
