George Glass rocked my kneecaps off with this one!

The musical comedy trio out of Adelaide, S.A. managed to make the legend of Australian Olympic speed ice-skater Steven Bradbury even more entertaining. With the odds, particularly his age, stacked against him, our underdog Steven turns with desperation to the two skaters on each of his shoulders that stand in for his conscience: Tony Hawk and Tonya Harding.

The three skating greats lurch clumsily from one scheme to the next to the beat of future hits such as “The Devil’s Gonna Give You A Blowjob”. The shared musical talent of George Glass was the highlight of their performance. The trio rotated between a set of drums, a guitar and an electric piano throughout the show, each contributing vocals and taking turns on the instruments. It was a shame that at some points the lyrics were lost to the music and therefore the comedic impact lessened.

Another personal highlight of the show was the fourth wall-breaking and inter-textual references. The portrayal of Lance Armstrong as the Devil’s gimp was edgy enough to achieve both gasps and laughs; the desired effect.

Other topics of current social discourse that received comedic relief related to psychology, society, IVF and gender inequality. This witty, subtle and sharp musical comedy has entertainment appeal for younger audiences, with its inter-textual referencing and innuendo, as well as more mature audiences, with its fresh take on an Australian legend set to the timeless beat of rock n’ roll.
