Cupid’s “Love This Cabaret” is a delightfully weird little showcase of touring FRINGE WORLD acts all wrapped up in a pair of snug and glittery golden short-shorts.

Actually, there isn’t room in the shorts for everyone, but the eponymous star – a.k.a. Nick Mortimer – presents the show with warmth, charm and quite a lot of skin.

Joining him are three excellent acts, each offering tasty morsels from their own shows.

Mary Bourke’s sweet Irish brogue belies a stinging wit and sharp angle on life. She travelled all the way from Ireland to be billeted out in a shed in Midland in the middle of summer, and still manages to be funny! Her show ‘I can make you Irish’ is bound to please.

Comedian and juggler Michael Connell whets the appetite for his show Juggling and Other Acts of Seduction. Fortunately, he is very funny and very skilful, sharing how he came to take two financially tenuous ideas and combine them into one financially tenuous career.

The stars of PickUp: Sex is Funny, Colin and Alia, turn their sweet strings and vocal harmonies to situational comedy about sex. They make a cute duo: quirky, nerdy and funny. It’s quite a talent to present all-original songs in a way that has the audience itching to sing along.

But it is the quaint and endearing package (so to speak) of one Cupid that makes it all hang together so well.

He has a wonderful knack for building trust with audience members, such that they’ll consent to just about anything. He is alarming and disarming all at once – such a gentleman that one almost doesn’t notice the spectacle of him right there in front of you.

But then, who wouldn’t want to see a beautiful man of advancing years wearing wings, heels and little else?
