In Science Magic - Messy Mayhem, comedian/scientist Donal Vaughan encourages children to learn and experiment with changing variables and predicting results, all whilst cracking jokes about farts, bums, and unicorn vomit.

His first scientific trick combines cola, rock salt, and poop emoji sunglasses, with explosive results. But - as Vaughan says - he hasn’t made a mess, he has “done a science.” His casual manner and toilet humour keep the children entertained. Some of his jokes are surprisingly crass for the target demographic, but laughter ensued and no one stormed out.

Vaughan's scientific explorations include the expelling (and smelling) of demons, and the science of invisible matter, which inevitably evolves into concoctions of freshly squeezed werewolf pee mixed with bicarbonate of fairy dust. The show contains fire safety messages, which accompany the burning of an anthropomorphic balloon, and involves dishwashing liquid - the staple of all science kits - along with goggles (check), a lab coat (check) and a tea towel on the head (wait, what?).

Science Magic - Messy Mayhem begins with a coke explosion and ends with a man setting himself on fire, providing an entertaining foray into the messy magic of scientific investigation. This show doesn’t take itself too seriously, with an emphasis on fun over physics.

If you’ve ever wanted to see a carrot pee, or witness a laundry-basket air-cannon shoot smoke rings at children, this is the show for you.
