A must do for music lovers - a few (thousand) steps back in time through Perth’s musical legacy.
Music lovers and history buffs converge in this twisting turning walking tour through Perth.
Far from your average Fringe show or familiar Spiegeltent experience, this one of a kind tour took me and 20 of my new musical mates from the Cultural Centre to Elizabeth Quay and everywhere in-between.
At each stop our vivacious leader, Jane, brought the sites and sounds alive with her passionate narration and performance.
From the highs of envisioning Santana singing on top of Beatty Park pool, to more somber eras including a time of banned photography at Connections, for fear of being ‘found out’ when being LGBTQ was a crime, the tour left no stone unturned.
While the level of detail was, at times, a bit much for me, the music we were treated to between stops made the tour fun for everyone. Hearing local Noongar artists, INXS and of course a bit of Jimmy Barnes, weaved a rich picture of Perth’s musical history.
All in all, it’s a hugely wholesome experience.
Kids will likely struggle with the length and content, but take your favourite music loving boomer and you’ll be their favourite person for at least a week. Take some water with you and make sure you have a wee before you get going, and you might even be able to push it to a month.
