The scene is set, the timeline is unknown, this is Dirk Darrow: Magic of Future Past. Here our jaded detective will transport you into the belly of the beast that is film noir, with a twist! Quench your FRINGE WORLD thirst with this tall drink of immersive theatre, a splash of magic, mind-reading, numerology and of course a heavy pour of comedic gold.

From the minute the doors open, Tim Motley, or rather his well-known archetypal detective character Dirk Darrow, demonstrates that he sure knows how to work a crowd. Whether it’s into laugher, disbelief or a state of intrigue.

The layout of this show is well designed for audience interaction and engagement. Pre-show, we had the opportunity to fill out some question cards, later to be selected for plot integration (or rather interrogation?).

Dirk is on a mission to prevent environmental catastrophe, and to achieve this feat he’ll have to travel through time with the power of a ‘SIRI’ like cellular based AI, bringing along his (rather questionable) lie-detector.

The narrative slipped back and forth through time, as did the recurrent interrogation of selected witnesses and suspects (aka audience members). With a click of his fingers, our steely detective would snap out of a theatrical monologue, breaking the fourth wall by crowd sourcing participants to assist in his search for the truth.

To find his target, Dirk leaves no stone unturned. There's no point trying to hide your secret profession or star-sign here, Dirk Darrow will get to the bottom of such great mysteries. At the end of each successful demonstration of his well-honed mentalist skills and magic tricks, with a click of his fingers the wall was immediately back up, and the plot had thickened…

Dirk Darrow: Magic of Future Past is surely a show to see if you enjoy well executed Film Noir genre paired with time travel, mentalism, numerology, magic and true showmanship!
