From the brainchild of producer and performer, Liberty Genre, soar to the heavens of Olympus in this modern, drag retelling of the myth of the Golden Apple of Discord; an eclectic, hour-long stage show beaming with strengths in both concept and in cast, intertwined with a pageant storyline reminiscent of Sandra Bullock's Miss Congeniality.

The show begins with a scorned Goddess of Discord, Eris, played by the emotive Rhonda Civic who is relegated from Olympus by Zeus. She introduces us to the coveted Golden Apple; a prize for the Goddesses of Olympus to vie for in a pageant hosted and judged by Paris of Troy, played by the flashy Skye Scraper.

Our contestants for the evening; Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena are introduced to us through several rounds of pageantry which include live-vocals, showy dance skills and charming improv.

Hera, played by Genre, is an understated mental giant and flexes her cleverness well in this show. Aphrodite, played by Cece Desist, is a leading light in drag garishness and was considerably good at picking up the show in sections where it lulled. Athena, played by Danisa Snake, is efficacious in choreography and ability to execute daring moves.

This is a show that has a lot of potential and could be strengthened by a commitment to the characterisation; for example, the drag spot of 'It's Raining Men' performed by Aphrodite did not thematically link up to what we know the Goddess of Love for.

The final interview portion could also use a bit of tightening with scripted, hard-hitting jokes that drive home the pageant aspect of the show rather than the improv-style that they have elected to use, as it did wear thin on the audience.

Those that like to get involved with the local drag scene of Perth are sure to be impressed by the ambition of these young drag artists and will be proud to boast that they witnessed the show in its genesis in years to come.
