Songs From The Hill: Mark Turner and Jessie Gordon is a magical evening you do not want to miss. Made up of their own original music and set in the intimate Moana Hall, Mark and Jessie have created the perfect way to showcase their incredible talents as songwriters, musicians, and vocalists. With a makeshift rug turned stage filled with candles, greenery, and copious amounts of fairy lights it feels more like the duo have welcomed you into their living rooms.

Having known each other for over 20 years, Mark and Jessie have the sort of friendship where they know exactly what the other is thinking. These bonds between performers and friends are an absolute wonder to watch, where every key change is flawless, and they never skip a beat.

Opening with The Hill, a song Mark and Jessie wrote together, they conjured up images of pattering rain on tin roofs and sleeping in your childhood bed; the crowd was taken back with them to their childhoods spent in the Perth Hills.

Jessie’s tune Better Alone is a highlight of the intimate evening, with both her and Mark getting right into the groove, cheeky ditties like Pastry Song and Fill Me Up With Words elicited giggles and whoops from the crowd as we lapped up every moment of harmony.

Mark’s song Learn & Become is sincere, deep and he sings every note wholeheartedly. Taking things down a notch, a very special acoustic version of the heartfelt You May Be Gone tugged at our heartstrings and there was not a dry eye in the house. Without the microphones, Mark and Jessie’s voices are just as fantastic, filling the Art Deco venue to the rafters with sweet melodies and lyrical wonders.

The magic created by Mark and Jessie needs to be seen (and heard) to be believed. These two really are the best Perth has to offer. This performance is romantic, fun, honest and unreserved. The only problem? I want to see it again and again and again!
