The Lotterywest De Parel Spiegeltent always sets the scene for some magical Fringe fun. Instantly upon entering a Spiegeltent you are transported to an otherworldly time and place where anything whimsical, thought-provoking or joyous can happen, My Greatest Period Ever aligned perfectly with these sentiments.

Part-educational, part-full-moon-circle this show celebrates and honours the cyclical experience of people, inclusive of all identities, menstrual statuses or experiences. The opening of the show provided one of the sweetest acknowledgments of country I’ve seen via live illustration. This set the scene for a highly talented counterpart - Richard Peach - to skilfully create visual representations of Lucy Peach’s creating as she weaves her magic onstage.

The commencement of the show bought some technical difficulties and the feedback detracted from the atmosphere spun by the fairy lights. Peach handled this situation with grace and humour so after some shuffling the show was back on track. The audience were empowered to dance, sing, celebrate themselves and be reminded about how “divine and precious” they truly are.

Lucy’s vocal talents are captivating and her songwriting skills were expertly deployed to cultivate a clever, informative and fun production. The audience were visibly touched as she encouraged an outpouring of love and collective encouragement.

Shows like these in supportive, safe and inclusive spaces are absolutely what the world needs right now.
