A satisfying selection of melodic mirth that represents a broad spectrum of Perth’s comedic talent. Be prepared to have your taste buds tantalised as you are tempted by a selection of linguistic and lyrical treats, in the form of singing, rapping and rhyming to the beats.

For the first time at FRINGE WORLD Festival The Musical Comedy Showcase, brings together an assortment of musical comedians, serving up what can only be described as their very own dish of the day. The showcase truly is a great smorgasbord of spicy starters, guaranteed to deliver a new favourite for your Fringe Binge list.

To open the show Mr Matt Storer set the tone with a striptease that needs to be seen to be believed. It was bodaciously brazen, all above the belt and garnered a snort from me and the cohort. As the host he certainly garnered the most lavish of all the laughter addressing such topics as lactose intolerance, love and knocked it out of the park with an ode to urination; a coherent argument for a more laidback approach to ‘toxic’ masculinity.

Next was Mickey J who leapt forward to deliver a barrel of laughs through mime, dance a voracious verse and catchy chorus. This man exudes an unparalleled level of stage presence that commands the attention of the audience. He is sure to capture your gaze and thank goodness he didn’t get a graze, as he meticulously tended to his bits and bobs in a fascinating display of slow motion movement. Hilarious and hairy no more, you will be left wanting more.

Already with a belly full of laughs, out rolled some more left of field dishes with Alissia Marsh followed by Tomas Ford. Both expressing a sprinkling of self deprecation, ukulele strumming and sharp audience interaction. Fruity, dry, with some out there flavours, who knew dementia, sexy and 69 could be used in the same saucy sentence.

Each served up a set that tumbled and turned corners, leaving the audience never quite knowing what was next.

Rounding out the evening was Don Smith, the legend with a well seasoned and wide ranging set of songs. His pickling poked fun at the aged, audience, lefties and liberals. With a true blue streak making his rendition of that’s AMORE’ totally unique, I really wanted to press repeat.

Thankfully any of these moments can be re-visited at the comedians own show, so support local Perth talent and book your toosh to a seat!!
