Enneagon Movement is a collective of talented emerging dance performers who have returned to FRINGE WORLD 2022 to provide a further developed version of Pursuit, a show which they performed successfully in 2021.

The show explores pleasure, what it means and the various ways in which it is pursued.

The seven dancers, all attired in brilliant red, shone throughout a beautifully crafted show.  The messages were conveyed principally by the movements and expressions of the dancers but sometimes assisted by voiceovers.  The exposition was aided by the soundtrack (mostly original music) and various lighting effects which contributed to the depth of the performance but without deflecting focus from the dancers.

Each dancer had their moment to shine individually but it was the ensemble pieces where they combined to create a mesmerizing whole which were the most compelling, and there were plenty of those to enjoy.  And the athleticism and stamina of all seven performers was remarkable.

The mood of the presentation glided fluently up and down and around and we are carried along with the dancers, who performed with exuberance and at times frivolity.  I loved the bit where they recreated a beer ad and the depiction of ‘123 home’ was a hoot.  There was a ‘feel-good’ quality about the whole thing.

Other than the dancers, some of the key creative contributors to the show were choreographer Georgia Schijf (who worked in close collaboration with the dancers), musician Sophia Hansen-Knarhoi (whose original compositions fuelled the soundtrack) and producer Ellen-Hope Thomson.

It was impressive that this show was not just a visual feast to luxuriate in, but also encouraged an active contemplation of our own experiences of pleasure.  It will be enjoyed by devotees of contemporary dance but I would recommend anyone to get along with an open mind and see just where this genre can take you.
