Quirky, energetic, and surprisingly educational, strap in for the most unique cabaret you’ve ever seen.

Un Cabaret de Legendes is a wild ride starring historical leaders performing cabaret with the flair for the unexpected that is typical of FRINGE. Created by Chloe Palliser, the cabaret troupe is made up of six very talented dancers, their exuberant and knowledgeable MC, and John in the sound booth, who has his trigger finger on the sound effects board.

The lives and careers of world leaders such as Genghis Kahn and King Henry VIII are explored via tap dancing and show tunes, a hilarious incongruity that creates a unique learning and entertaining experience. The dazzling array of costumes create an extra element of surprise, whether they are pastel pant suits danced onto the stage, or mesh shirts and fishnet stockings appearing from under tearaway clothing. The variety of lingerie for the dancers alone is enough to make any boob-owner's jaw drop.

While the MC’s jokes were a little clichéd and the script for the talking interludes could have been tighter, the performers are clearly abundant in natural talent, and I eagerly awaited each new scene.

The audience also got many chances to be part of the action, which may seem scary and awkward to some, but the challenges issued forth were quirky and entertaining (no one saw the burlesque barbie doll dancers coming). In fact, the venue at Curtin’s Hayman Theatre is so intimate they could have set aside more time for building up a rapport with their audience, most of whom were keen as beans to get involved.

Those looking for something new, silly, and fun should check out Un Cabaret De Legendes, especially those who hear Bonnie Tyler’s ‘I Need A Hero’ and see Mark McGowan’s dependable face dancing before their eyes.
