From the moment the Two Cent Professionals burst onto the stage with Robbie Williams' “Let Me Entertain You”, it was clear their guarantee of “a thriving dance floor and a good time” would well and truly be delivered. They set the tone with bold, blasting brass and kept up a high-energy performance the whole way through the show.
The 12-piece big band features drums, keys, guitar and bass along with vocals and a vibrant horn section (saxes, trumpets and trombone), plus occasional sprinklings of tambourine and cowbell to keep things powering along.
Last night’s set list was made up of party favourites from the 70s through to today, spanning pop, rock, R&B and even country. We’re talking hits from Britney, Beyoncé and Lizzo as well as Stevie Wonder, Salt-N-Pepa and The Killers, to name just a few.
You can tell the band is genuinely having a great time. They have incredible stage presence and fill the room with personality thanks to their synchronised bopping and the way the wind instrumentalists join in on the lyrics when not playing. And they’re not afraid to inject a good dose of humour - after all, would it be a Fringe show without a little bit of striptease thrown in?
The Two Cent Professionals’ infectious party energy got the audience on their feet, grooving and singing along. The band squeezed a dozen songs into their hour-long slot but had the audience begging for an encore (which was duly delivered).
It’s easy to see why this bunch of energetic musicians with WAAPA graduate Chris Musitano at the helm as Musical Director has garnered a great reputation as wedding, party and event entertainers over the past 13 years - and scooped a FRINGE WORLD Weekly Award in 2021.
If you’re looking for a fun-filled gig where you can dance the COVID blues away, “All Horn-ed Up! with the Two Cent Professionals” is for you.
