Why name the show Squid game? Which has nothing to do with the highly popular and acclaimed Korean TV series on Netflix…
A lot of humour on display, Squirly goes through some of the trend of the moment, sometimes a bit hedgy, with nice twists, never too far and without being lengthy on each. He always bounces back nicely on a new topic, he never lets it dry. A little warning, though, to people who would be going to the office on their electric scooter…
He engages with the public, the “weirdos” in the basement, not making people uncomfortable, the atmosphere is chilled and everybody has a good laugh. His humour could be a bit quirky at a time, my favourite was the vegan joke but I won’t tell more not to spoil it for you.
A very good comedy, simple, well delivered and incredibly efficient, he is bringing to Perth some perspective from up north, a country accent and spin and also his fisherman background, Quid the Squid game.
He is however familiar with the stand-up comedy scene and audience, as a winner of the WA raw comedy in 2016, he has participated at previous FRINGE WORLD Festival, Perth Comedy Festival, toured around pubs and stand up venues and now relocated in Perth to be closer to his audience and focus on comedy seriously, full time.
The starting act was also good, settled and funny, a good way for young artist to give a go. He had a little spin on his dual heritage but did not expand on it too much and manage to get more general on his picks.
Hilarious, I strongly recommend this show. Cool down in the basement, get a nice drink from the bar and enjoy the show, that is the best therapy for a hot day.
