The clue to the show is in the title: wild womxn, meaning all who identify as such and who did not play nicely or by the patriarchal rules.

Both Jessie Gordon and Simone Craddock are stunning singer/songwriters who've trod on stages worldwide, bringing that experience to the intimate space of the Ellington Club.

Accompanied only by Adrian Galante on piano, they tell the audience of inspiring womxn through song, poetry, stories and humour (shout out to their leopard print dress and gown).

Songs composed by or made famous by wild womxn such as Billie Holliday, Dolly Parton, Carole King, Aretha Franklin are among many of the standouts, or which all were standouts along with that southern US folk classic 'Don't Leave Nobody but the Baby'. Jessie even gave us one of her own songs, which was a silken delight.

Both Jessie and Simone plainly love the music they are singing here, giving the audience the benefit of what made them want to sing. It is a gift being passed from them to us as it was to them.

That passion they have for song and poetry (and the wit of Dorothy Parker) will have you tapping your feet, tapping your fingers and might even have you singing along to the chorus of 'I am Woman' at the end, which was a very fitting closing number. It was my mother's favourite song and was played at her funeral, so I was personally touched.

Now, go and hit 'buy tickets' and see/hear for yourself.
