Have you ever seen a magic show and thought it could use a few more nipple tassels? Cameron the Magician and Coco Fatale have, and they’ve got you covered – and themselves uncovered – as they go head to head in the attempt to win the audience’s favour.
Cameron as MC and contender for the magic team is charismatic and confident, which is the only kind of person you want slamming your hand onto a bag that may or may not impale you on a nail. I have seen Cameron perform the infamous nail trick before and it is just the right amount of terrifying and impressive, although being the volunteer involved does rather tip the scales towards terrifying. However, I returned to my seat unimpaled, if rather sweaty, and I still have no idea how he did it. Cameron’s magic tricks are not for the faint-hearted or squeamish, but perfect for the curious and the thrill-seeking.
To get our hearts pumping in a different way, in between tricks were performances from bodacious burlesque dancers Coco Fatale, Rosie Rum Punch, and 2011’s Miss Burlesque WA, Kitty Litteur, competing for the audience’s favour in the final vote against Cameron’s magic. There were sparkly gloves, stockings, and garters flying into the audience, and their sultry moves earned a lot of votes.
The competition added a fun element of choice, with a special performance from the losing team, which I won’t spoil, but will tell you that when you think you’ve seen all the nipple tassels on stage, there are always more.
Burlesque vs Magic is a fun night of variety and surprises, and has something for everyone, whether it’s sexy dancing or card tricks that gets you going.
