I barely know what to say. The emotion was overwhelming as I lay there surrounded by sound, feeling the vibrations echo through my body. From chimes to bells, singing bowls to guitars, shakers to the didgeridoo, Luke played to different moods and energies, sweeping up the whole room in a strong cleansing force.
Yab Yum Yoga was the perfect venue. We were greeted at the door by incense, and the soft glow of lanterns around an altar to Ganesha. The space is big and welcoming, and they had yoga mats and blankets for people like me who didn’t think to bring anything. Luke began with a guided mediation to help us relax. He moved throughout the space playing the instruments, disrupting old energy and dispelling negative vibes with the low tone of a singing bowl and the swish-swash of a shaker.
Luke also sang, and his voice is beautiful. I felt like I was floating; at other times I felt the urge to dance, and sometimes tears leaked down my face. But I knew it was a safe space to process that emotion, and Luke invited us afterwards to speak with him if we had any questions or things that came up for us.
Even if you’re not quite as much of a pagan hippy as me, don’t write off coming to this event. There’s no wrong way to experience the sounds, and everything you feel or think is valid. Just come with an open mind and be ready to relax for an hour to yourself, awash in music. This event is an act of self-care to yourself and love to everyone else, and everyone in the room felt connected. Even if you have no idea what to expect – just come with good intentions and see the magic unfold.
My thanks to Luke for this beautiful experience. It will feel very different for everybody, which is why I could only describe my specific experience in this review. I hope that your Heart Wave experience is equally as loving and cleansing.
