Little Bangers is a children's musical comedy show composed of five skilled improv artists and three talented musicians.

It is no mean feat to conceptualise, create, and perform an entire musical on the fly, but that is exactly what Little Bangers does over the course of an hour. You would think that an improvised musical performance based on audience participation would descend into absurdity and chaos in no time, but Little Bangers pulls off cohesive storylines, character development, conflict resolution, and of course, fully fledged songs, right off the cuff, with just a little help from the audience.

This entertaining show strikes a delicate balance between its rehearsed and improvised elements, both of which read as being utterly impromptu to the untrained eye. The cast are quirky and fast on their feet, creating songified poetry from audience-led prompts, complete with comedic choruses and the occasional vocal harmony. Impeccable teamwork, an invisible template, and catchy tunes are the cogs that make this machine run smoothly. The actors make good use of the stage, and utilise an impressive selection of invisible props.

This high energy improv comedy is the closest you’ll ever come to seeing adults play like children. Chicken nuggets, shoe rocks, and basketball sabotage featured in the version I saw, but every performance is unique, and if there is one thing we know about chickens, it’s that they love to play basketball. Wait, what?

Little Bangers will have your kids in stitches. The good kind.
