Part tribute band, part rock band, part jazz and part stand up comedy- that’s what you get when you see anything involving Adam Hall and his wonderfully over-talented merry men.

Whether you’re a Billy Joel fan or not, anyone that simply likes good music played at a world class level would appreciate this band.

Hall has various machinations of his band, doing gigs around Perth. On this occasion he had American born, now Perth resident, Hans Fiancé playing keyboards and singing lead for most of the Billy Joel hits.

Fiancés voice was remarkably like Joel’s but had a stronger jazz quality to it. He was the perfect foil for a Joel tribute. He also oozed charisma throughout the entire set and quietly commanded the stage.

Hall had warned the audience that they would do most of Joel’s hits in the one hour set, but he didn’t care if he missed some of the favourites- after all “this wasn’t a karaoke night”.

Ironically, such was the energy in the room, by the end of the night, the room sounded more like an English soccer crowd- such was the loud and enthusiastic singing from the sold out audience.

The hits kept coming with some amazing saxophone playing especially during Scenes From An Italian Restaurant. The same instrumentalist played the most astonishing guitar solo in You May Be Right. And later finished on the piano accordion to Piano Man. Here is an astonishingly talented individual.

Hall has a magic about him and also leads his band with charismatic and humour charged confidence- he had the audience eating out of his hands. He’s not only a master trumpeter but did a wonderful rendition of New York State Of Mind. The boy can sing.

The rhythm section of bass and drums cannot be left out- absolutely world class.

You know you’ve had a great night when you walk into the darkened streets feeling on top of the world and punching the air.

If I could give these guys 6 stars I would. Do yourself a favour and see the last few shows left for this absolutely brilliant band.
