An improvisation show that can’t be improved!

The Big HOO-HAA is a long running (over 20 years!) creative comedy show performed in Perth, well-known as a great night out filled with laughter. The Dirty HOO-HAA is exactly the same- except more, well, dirty!

These local comedians form teams- the Hearts vs the Bones- and duke it out for the chance to be crowned the winners and receive a random trophy. They’ll even provide you with a card for voting purposes. No word or theme is out of bounds in this version of the show where audience participation is mandatory; feel free to yell out anything that comes to mind, the more unusual the better! Then watch the teams scramble trying to create a musical about whatever weirdness you just doomed them to.

Classic games include a sing-a-long to the tune ‘Da doo ron ron’ and saucy charades, where even ‘salt’ can be a kink. Another game involves suggestions of movie quotes and pickup lines, written down for the unsuspecting comics to randomly exclaim during a scene. I especially enjoy the performers’ ability to go with the flow and adapt, it’s part of what makes this kind of comedy so natural and entertaining.

Hosted by Samuel Longley, an engaging and energetic host and hilarious comedian in his own right, the line-up of players will change each show. This way you’re always guaranteed a good laugh, a nice mixture of Perth comedians and a show that will never be the same twice. However there are stand outs – watch for Tristan McInnes in particular. Tristan has the funniest facial expressions and is a delight to watch, turning any suggestion into a dirty pun or punchline. Not to forget the music (in this case expertly provided by Peter Ho), a quintessential part of an improv show especially including the ‘dun tss’ drum sound effect after a punchline.

All in all The Dirty HOO-HAA is a hilarious romp into the uninhibited improv comedy world, a show filled with belly laughs and jokes you’ll want to write down to tell your friends later. Highly recommend.
