The great thing about any FRINGE WORLD show is the incredible variety and opportunity for local performers to shine. “Your Village Peeps” is simply a fun, tongue in cheek talent show that allows so many young future stars the chance to showcase their abilities on the glistening stage of Air Niteclub.

From the opening moments of the Stage Manager talking directly to the audience as if we were a studio audience at Channel 7, we were transported to the cutthroat competition of reality TV, with the power of the audience voting for their favourite performers.

The premise is that each pair of performers is vying for a role in the re-creation of the band Village People, into the Village Peeps! Who will be the new Biker, Cowboy, Construction Worker, Cop, Indian or Army Guy?

Simone Craddock as a special guest judge delivered pithy lines giving the show some stylish panache and cheeky winks to the audience. The MC Blake Williams was well into his role competently asking each performer, “Tell us your story, how did you get here?” We heard that the contestants were born to shine, their teacher didn’t believe in their talents, Mum and Dad have supported me, lots of the reality TV smoochy lines that we all like to hear.

The audience had a wonderful time cheering enthusiastically for their favourite performers, and we all loved the music choices. The 70’s and 80’s were very well represented with songs from Bony M, Simon and Garfunkel, Tina Turner, Queen and, of course, The Village People. When my friend and I sat down we were immediately accosted by a proud parent of one of the performers wanting to know, “Who have you come to see?” Well, we didn’t know anyone in the cast, but we could tell that most of the audience did!

The finale of “Your Village Peeps” is worth the ticket price alone for its incredibly fast paced and vibrant choreography, but this is a family friendly, delightful show that children, adults and older patrons will all enjoy.
