A show that represents everything we all adore about Fringe! There are drag kings, drag queens and others somewhere in-between. There are rewritten classic Disney tunes, bizarre dance routines and flirtatious puns galore. The team from The Hairy Godmothers is back, baby, and they are as fabulous as ever!

From the moment you enter the venue, guests are welcomed by the entire cast with a singsong that gets the audience ready for what lies ahead. The protagonist demonstrates the extraordinary limits of his/her impressive vocals before the true star of the show comes on stage: the very hairy godmother! Australian quips and a blasé attitude towards all things Disney make this character a hit with everyone who understands (as well as with every poor soul who doesn’t quite understand) the references to our childhood crushes.

The story follows the protagonist in search of his/her one true love (oh so sweet!) and at each stage, he/she finds a fictional favourite who takes the stage and showcases their more alternative side of life. Arial starts with her exploration of her gadgets and gizmos a plenty and Pocahontas paints with all the colours of the “wind”.

Every addictive song has been rewritten with an adult twist to include relatable references from today’s day and age. Some explore feminism whilst others explore what it truly means to be a man like Mulan. Others celebrate the female body, some make nods to fetishes and others pay tribute to the banal burden of online dating. Each song and each act as sidesplitting and sensation-stimulating as the next!

It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you attempt to sing along and it’ll make you leave questioning your childhood morals. If you’re looking for an exhibition of pure creative, “out there” talent, this is a show for you!
