Anjilene Phoenix started working as a pavement artist in Sydney in the early 1990s. Feeling that more people would see and enjoy her work if she made art in the street, she was content to practice outdoors and shied away from offers to exhibit in galleries. It wasn't until she did a visual arts degree in 2010 that she realised the benefits of exhibiting within four walls. Since then Anjilene has participated in eighteen group shows, and curated two exhibitions that involved thirty artists. She continues to make art in public spaces and has worked on the pavements of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Broome, Boston, and Perth. Every time Anjilene makes art in the streets she creates an outdoor solo exhibition, now she is pretending to take life seriously and having a solo show indoors!
