Queer Jazz

About this event
If you like jazz, you probably like queer jazz. You may not know it, but there
is a long and illustrious list of queer jazz singers, composers and
lyricists. From the out and proud Bessie Smith to the closeted Lorenz
Hart, some of the most well known jazz and blues standards have been
touched by the fabulous flourish of queerness.
Jessie Gordon and Adrian Galante take you on a gay romp through the devastating wit of Cole Porter to the earthy and explicit stylings of Lucille Bogan and Ma Rainey. From the heartbreaking beauty of Hart’s 'Where or When' to Billy Strayhorn’s celebratory 'Take the A Train', from Billie Holiday to Carmen McCrae, from Alberta Hunter to Josephine Baker, there’s something for everyone in this exploration of all that is jazz, gay, lesbian, bi and ultimately queer.
