About this event

Through the lost songs of 1930’s Parisian Cabaret divas, Yvette Guilbert, Marie Dubas, and Eliane Embrun, including the great Edith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich, Eartha Kitt, and composers Satie, Weill and Poulenc, even Anna Russell, we evoke the unique visual and musical intensity of 1930's Paris through one girl's search for love.

Her journey will be one of faux pas and follies, false starts and missteps, from wicked, dark humor to raw, unfettered anguish. In this new cabaret Illusions - a French Cabaret, a one-woman show, written and performed by Anne Millar, with David Wickham on piano and Matt Reuben James Ward directing with design by Blair Parkinson, she moves through her vulnerability and the pain of self-delusion to find her way out of the dark and into mastery of self, life, and love.

Presented by:
Anne Millar - Chanteuse and David Wickham - Piano

Anne studied at the NSW Conservatorium of Music where she obtained degrees in both Teaching and Performing. After also completing the Diploma of Operatic Art and Music Theatre, she was contracted to West Australian Opera as Resident Mezzo-Soprano, where she performed many principals and chorus roles Anne has performed as a soloist with the Perth Oratorio Choir, UWA Choral Society at Winthrop Hall, Art Song Perth, contemporary group Nova Ensemble and given live ABC broadcasts.

Anne devised the cabaret, Voyages a Paris - from Poulenc to Piaf, presenting the show throughout Perth and regional centers, and In 2013. the cabaret Femmes Fatales - a history, written and performed by her and Sonni Byrne, debuted in Fringe World. Anne was a senior member of the WAO Chorus until retiring this year.
