About this event

For 5 years, Cara lived in an abusive Pentecostal rehab cult. Before that, Cara was raised to be a martyr for Jesus. Literally die for His name. She grew up believing that would happen in her lifetime.

In 2022 Cara leaked the story about the cult to national media, because Scomo gave them $4m. It sparked a Parliamentary Inquiry. Now, gay conversion is (almost) illegal in WA, and 5 other points of legislation have been approved.

However, the journey of recovery from religion and Christian purity culture takes longer than passing some legislation, and that took a long time.

A solo show about recovering from religious trauma, performed by a polyamorous, pansexual, kinky, heretical clown, whipping herself on a cross in an ecstatic confession of her own sexuality.

Can I get an amen?

Presented by:
Cara Flame

Performer, clown, Relationship Anarchist, keynote speaker; ex cult member, author, researcher, multimodal arts therapist - Cara Flame is an avid explorer and lover of life.

Cara came from a background in professional theatre before joining a cult, then pursued the path of the independent filmmaker whilst living as an expat in Mainland China, paying the bills as a professional singer. Returning to Australia, Cara worked in film, education, and small business. Became an arts therapist. She lived her life in fear of the religion she grew up in and the cult she left, until she one day found the confidence to speak out. What followed changed her life.

Now, Cara is a passionate believer in the life changing power of play. Want to join the game?
