About this event

The Australian Highlights podcast and article series is the place where we find the innovative people and ideas which are not – yet! – common knowledge. Join us for a live recording where we'll be brightening the lights for a launch event!

Australian Highlights explores the captivating stories behind Australia's most groundbreaking innovations and discoveries. With a focus on game-changing women and Indigenous trailblazers, this light-hearted and funny discussion shines a light on the ingenuity and diversity that propel Australia forward.

Each night, a different innovator and comedian will chat with host, award-winning Rachel Rayner, Science Explainer, on the interesting science, art and cultural landscape behind their innovation.

Presented by:
Rachel Rayner

Rachel Rayner is a physicist, performer and poet who has shared a love of science, art and language with audiences all over the world. As Rachel Rayner, Science Explainer, she uses various forms of communication to reach audiences – whether live shows and broadcasts, poetry and articles, or panel discussions and educational activities. Rachel has been involved with very different scientific projects: from human health, to radio astronomy, to deep ocean habitats. She has toured Vietnam on a diplomatic mission to invigorate science education, broadcast the frontline of ocean exploration from the bottom of the Pacific, helped launch one of the largest science experiments in the world from the South Africa desert, and co-authored a paper on science poetry.
