Sonia Payes Alchemy

Sonia Payes’ new body of photographs and sculptural works illustrates the artist's confidence in our ability as a species to adapt and endure.  Hers is an art of faith and aspiration. Filtered by a veil of memory and awareness she constructs images that work on a slow fuse to document the cycle of transformation from birth to death while concurrently charting humanity's capacity to continually adjust to changes in the earth's mutable environment.

This exhibition features her photographic and the sculptural work that has developed from it as a way of interrogating these key questions confronting the human species. As she explains; “The body is in constant interaction with the environment. The two cannot be separated.”
