Red Hare's Wish
168BC, Imperial China, the final years of the Han Dynasty. Frustrated by her own inaction, Liu Bei, a sandal maker, joins the army with her sworn brothers. Cao Cao, a fugitive wanted for the attempted assassination of the tyrannical Lord Regent, schemes his way into the rebelling Coalition. Lu Bu, a warrior under the Lord Regent’s employ, struggles with a life of violence and envy as he falls in love with a woman who hates him. With compassion, wit, or cruelty, they each attempt to remake their lives as their paths converge.
Featuring a fusion of traditional and contemporary genres, Red Hare’s Wish is a stage musical based on the classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
This production showcases the first act with an ensemble cast and a pre-produced soundtrack.
Presented by: The Blue Room Theatre & Jialun Qi
Jialun is a composer and writer currently living in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. He has a day job as a railway engineer but likes to tell people he’s a musician. He has acted, produced, and composed for amateur theatre around Australia, and he enjoyed writing reviews for the Adelaide Fringe until the need to pay rent took him interstate. In 2024 he went to London to put on half a musical; he had hoped to finish writing the other half before putting it on again, but this chance to work with the Blue Room Theatre was too good to pass up. You can find him noodling on the violin when he’s off the clock.
Definitely do not look up him up if you are a Kindle reader.
