Nicola Macri: Single Entendre

Please, world, can't a gal just use the eggplant emoji to celebrate an excellent vegetable without your filthy giggles?

Having taken at least two Linguistics classes at uni, Nicola Macri loves the wild enigma of language, but some things must be made perfectly clear.

With the state of the world today, the need to understand each other is greater than ever. But modern parlance is a murky soup of ambiguous terminology, cryptic sarcasm, undetectable satire, and jerks who use abstruse vocabulary like “modern parlance”. And “abstruse".

As Perth’s premier asexual comedian, she has a particular issue with euphemism. Sometimes a sausage is just a sausage.

It’s time to strip* comedy of its obsession with dirty wordplay. Bring on the single entendre! Humanity depends on it! Or something!

Presented by: Nicola Macri

Nicola Macri is a Perth comedian with an ever-expanding bag of weird tricks, like a less hot Mary Poppins. Following a couple of stand-up shows, she branched out into wigs, props, audience participation and in-depth film analysis for the breakout hit 'The Hilary Duff Film Re-Enactment Festival', which has gone on to win awards and delight millennials all around the country. Her new asexuality-focused stand-up show 'Single Entendre' premiered at Adelaide's Feast Festival in 2021. Nicola also appears with her sisters in the cabaret troupe Kiara With A K, and can often be found pointing a camera at other entertainers (at their request).
