JoBot!
Banjo! Robots! JoBot is a kaleidoscopic suite of new songs and soundscapes from Perth multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Dave Lawrence, where soulful blues and roots playing collides with psychedelic electronica, looping and automation.
Synth bass banjo, beatboxed backbeats, vocoder hollers and demented robot scat, and more, all performed live and layered into loop heaven. Imagine Daft Punk getting lost on the set of Deliverance, drinking some mushroom-laced moonshine, then jamming the hell out. Startling, unique and lovely, rootsy and futuristic.
This is what happens when a great musician is locked down with a roomful of devices, with nothing to do but pursue his flights of fancy. With his JoBot rig Dave brings the one-man-band schtick of old screaming into the 21st century.

Starting his music career as a teen in Perth the 80s, Dave has since played all over Australia and the globe, from Bali to Barcelona, Margaret River to Morocco. He has explored blues, rock, jazz, soul, latin, ska and folk and is handy with a whole lot of instruments - guitar, keys, banjo, lapsteel and voice. In demand as a sideman and session player, he came late to life as a lead singer, now fronting local legends Mister and Sunbird. Over the years he has worked with luminaries like Donna Simpson (The Waifs), Abi Tucker (Heartbreak High, Secret Life of Us) and Mike Vdelli. He has composed music for stage and film productions and received national and international airplay for his recordings.
Dave's song Lush Like You plays over the credits of 2014 Australian feature film The Little Death.
