Chatting with Hans
Hans calls himself Germany’s proudest and hottest export. He is a self-proclaimed international superstar, who’s next stop is FRINGE WORLD Festival!
For this Fringey interview, we had to ask him the tough questions about being a dazzling performer…
What has been your favourite costume that you've performed in?
Oh my gosh! There are so many! In fact, one of my holiday projects this year was organising my glam room and I think there are about 95 costumes in there at the moment, all sewn by my mother. I love them all!
What song do you enjoy performing the most and why?
I love anything that gets the crowd singing along. Proud Mary is always a favourite.
How do you decide what songs to put in a performance?
It always fits within a theme, so there’s obviously lots of disco this time round. But if I’m honest, I just want people to leave the show energised and full of joy. So, the songs usually reflect that.
What was your most embarrassing stage moment?
There was one night when I was singing a song on top of a piano and there was a candle next to me. I had feathers on at the time and the next minute they went up in flames and there was smoke everywhere.
If the accordion didn’t exist, which instrument do you think you would play?
A world without the accordion is not a world I want to live in!
What’s your favourite thing about having back-up dancers?
They all think I am God!
Who’s your favourite celebrity that you’ve met?
There are quite a few, but I think I obviously have a soft spot for Heidi Klum as a fellow German supermodel. I see her as a peer!
What’s your advice for your fans who want to learn to do the splits?
Stretch, stretch and stretch… And take a LOT of Voltaren!
Who are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by EVERYTHING. People in the audience. What's happening in the news. What's happening in the room on the night. Everything becomes fodder for the show.
What's your favourite thing about Perth?
Well I obviously love the Fringe. I love the people in Perth, I love dancing at Connections Nightclub, I love eating at Hamptons City Beach. Basically, I love everything about Perth except for Margaret Court!
