The Ice Cream Factory was transformed into a gloriously bold ‘90s club night, dripping in rhinestones and joy, for the final Friday of FRINGE WORLD Festival in Perth. Despite kicking off a little later than planned, this dazzling line-up – led by the Party Prince of Perth, Flynn V – absolutely delivered.
From towering flames to stunning vocals, jaw-dropping aerial artistry to razor-sharp choreography set to iconic ‘90s tracks, the audience was treated to a deliciously diverse showcase. Though each performer brought a distinct style, they all embodied the wild, talented, sparkling joy at the heart of Fringe.
Karl Kayoss demonstrated pure athleticism, flipping effortlessly down the catwalk (so perfectly I’m still wondering if I imagined it). He performed the most insane, upside-down, flexible aerial manoeuvres on what appeared to be a gigantic martini glass.
If you were looking for something fiery, look no further than Nat Oakes’ powerful routine. Clad in silver, she strutted down the catwalk, handling the flames in her hands with ease. The audience was delighted by her spunky choreography and gasped as she truly breathed plumes of fire into the sky.
Ginava’s act was truly flawless. The audience watched as they strode down the catwalk wearing the most fantastic black and purple glittering fringe. They had the crowd in the palm of their hand in the most poised yet charismatic burlesque routine I had ever seen. As they silkily removed the fringe piece by piece, they flirted with the crowd with entrancing facials and elegant choreography.
While every member of the cast deserves their own moment in the spotlight, this is one show best experienced firsthand. Led by the hilariously charming Flynn V, Freak-Out the Closing Party is an outrageously joyful celebration – and one you won’t want to miss when it returns to Perth.
