Mrs Wallace and the Royales is a seven-piece band of seasoned players with a perfect mix of movie nerd charm and iconic swagger. Tackling a Tarantino soundtrack mixtape is already a recipe for success — and the band delivered. Suits? Check. Sunglasses? Check. Full Reservoir Dogs energy? Check. Trumpet and banjo? Check.

The set was so enjoyable that it flew by, and the audience would have happily stayed for another hour, bopping along and soaking up the nostalgia. The best of three iconic Tarantino soundtracks was woven through the set, taking the audience from rockabilly and spaghetti western scores to surf rock, funk, and ’60s and ’70s soul and pop.

Lead singer Christabel Tallowin shared her personal experiences and memories of coming of age listening to these soundtracks, giving the performance an authentic connection to both the music and the audience. All the performers had a moment in the spotlight, which kept the energy high.

Despite being an early set, the audience ate it up, hooked on the feeling — clapping, “ooga chaka-ing,” and singing along. Stylish, playful, nostalgic, and fun, this was a performance that captured the swagger and range of a Tarantino soundtrack while making it entirely their own.
