In a world where ratings reign supreme and 15 minutes of fame is a valuable commodity, Shock Jocks by Weeping Spoon Productions commands our attention.

Shock Jocks takes the Studio Underground and splits into two distinct playing spaces for performer/ creators Shane Adamczak and Sarah Reuben. The recording studio for C.O.K Rock FM, and a peaceful park bench.

Occupying the radio station are Marvin Silver and Kelly. Loud, opinionated and politically incorrect, Marvin leads the ratings smash hit with Kelly as his foil. Tensions rise between the cohosts in between over played radio hits such as Iris by Goo Goo Dolls, as they argue over the treatment of callers and the popularity of their segments.

By contrast, the park bench plays host to two socially awkward workers, enjoying each other's company over lunch break coffees. Gingerly, they share details about their workplaces and personal lives, as they paint the audience with their awkward flirting and fresh takes on current affairs.

Adamczak shows off his performance power as he voices radio listeners from Midland to Mullaloo, and masterfully bounces back and forth between his on-stage characters.

Similarly, Reuben is well placed to provide some much-needed moral grounding in the radio station, and perfectly complements Adamczak's goofy-nerd energy in an unconventional, absurd love story that reveals itself towards the show's climax

A poignant satire on the state of commercial media and influencer culture that hits a little too close to home, it's a shame to say the radio host tropes are more recognisable than caricatures.

Shock Jocks show off Weeping Spoon Production's trademark wit in this laugh-out-loud new show. As major radio networks have switched up their presenter lineups in recent weeks (while others hold on to certain tired duos), Shock Jocks is one of the most timely shows at FRINGE WORLD.
