Looking for a fun, empowering night out with the girls? Then I highly recommend seeing I AM WOMAN. Or even if you’re not a woman, I would still recommend seeing it.
This show takes you on a journey of what it’s like growing up in our world. Travelling back in time to the cavemen, the stage exploded with a group of women using dance, breathing, and screams to express the primeval wild woman deep inside of us.
Taking us on a journey from childhood through to mother and matriarch. The laughter and innocence of childhood, the hurt of teenage bullying, learning to express oneself through dance, and accepting womanhood as a whole, not as either Madonna or seductress, but a complex intertwining of the two. The show uses dance as a celebration of womanhood.
The fluidity of the performance was taken to new heights, literally, with the amazing dance in the air with silks. The artist uses strength and skill to express the joy and freedom of movement. The work explores moving through different stages of life, accepting aging gracefully and honestly, and allowing it to empower women. The expressions of poetry used throughout the evening, written by the performers to connect with the audience, encompass all stages of women’s lives.
The flames weaved their magic, and the heat of the fire warmed the audience, especially the first row. Energy and power radiated from the entire performance, with the finale bringing it to a crescendo.
I highly recommend this show.
