Mother Lilith! The Sky Falls, and Falls leads with a fascinating premise. A queer, feminist retelling of Genesis and the Garden of Eden. Three intriguing characters explore gender dynamics and sexual freedom through the lens of this familiar story.
The highlight of the show is the set and production design. The use of lighting and shadow during scenes between Eve and Lilith elevated the performance. The tension between the two women was beautifully explored through their movement between the light and darkness. The dinner party set and flower arrangements were absolutely gorgeous. The audience was buzzing with anticipation as the lights dimmed.
Special mention should be given to the actor playing Adam. While his character has few lines and no monologue, his physical performance was embodied and captivating. In future iterations of the show, it would be fantastic to see his character expanded.
This is a show you will leave wanting more. A desire to see what happens next to Eve and Lilith, and a curiosity to know how Adam fits into the world he has found himself in. Fans of poetry and spoken word will be delighted by Poppy Sloan’s evocative and unapologetic script.
