Hear ye, hear ye — the Hairy Godmother is back! Stepping away from the well-trodden quest for true love, this time our glittering guide (complete with a sexy new frock) leads us into deliciously darker territory. Joined by newcomer Vil, we’re invited on a journey of self-discovery that trades conformity for chaos and encourages the embrace of one’s inner villain.
If there’s one thing you can count on with the Hairy Godmother, it’s unpredictability. No two shows are ever quite the same, partly because our host has a delightful habit of veering off script, pausing just long enough to clock the cast’s reactions and hold there to watch the chaos playout, and partly thanks to audience interaction that gives the entire performance a playful “choose your own adventure” energy. It keeps everyone on their toes, performers, audience and narrator alike.
As Vil grows into their wonderfully wicked self, we meet a line-up of infamous villain role models who share their backstories through lively song, dance, and plenty of theatrical flair. The cast throws themselves wholeheartedly into the spectacle, supported seamlessly by sound and lighting that ensure every moment lands exactly where it should.
Regular fans may be surprised to find this instalment a little more restrained than the gloriously outrageous Dizney in Drag parody we’ve come to know and love, but “tame” is relative, and the show still sparkles with mischief, humour, and heart.
There’s a very good reason tickets disappeared so quickly. When the Hairy Godmother comes to town, hesitation is not your friend. Book the tickets, gather your crew, and surrender to the chaos. This is one adventure you won’t want to miss.
