Let's Unpack That's final night at FRINGE WORLD Perth was funny and fresh. The show opens with a 2-minute video montage of Kate Wilkins crying to Not Strong Enough by boygenius (relatable) and other sombre tunes, and Nick Harriott laughing through the pain of having to move out of yet another house. This montage perfectly sets up what you're in for over the next hour - a hilariously relatable show.
Kate and Nick perfectly capture oddly specific moments and feelings in comedic musical performances. From rats under the stairs and poetic childhood diary entries to figuring out sexuality and what medication works best, there's something for everyone. I really enjoyed the pop culture references, and I think Gen Z and Millennial audiences would especially appreciate this.
Kate's expressiveness and physical comedy were brilliant. Nick's ability to soundtrack the show on his portable keyboard and riff with Kate was highly entertaining. Their styles of performance differed but complemented each other well.
The lights and use of the projector added so much to the show, making it more interesting by adding backdrops to each story. Plus, great use of space! That is a reference... but it's true. I absolutely loved this show, and I can't wait to see what Kate and Nick do next.
