Three British comedians with three distinct styles provided an entertaining show without lifting the roof off.

First up was Paul Savage, who could have carried off his night purely with his one-to-one banter. Coming across as a geezer you’ve just caught up with in the pub, he spent much of his time building a warm connection by simply introducing himself to a few audience members and having a bit of chat, often in another language, depending on whom he was speaking with. His ability to pull jokes out of the air based on what people were saying to him was really something quite special.

Raul Kohli, unfortunately, didn’t quite get the audience going. His efforts at connecting individually worked well, but his routine often finished on gags that weren’t pulling the laughs. When they did work, though, they quite cleverly pointed out some pretty serious issues dressed in comic clothing, leaving plenty of room for thought afterwards.

Kelsey Di Almeida suffered a similar fate, which he amplified with his own negative reaction to the performance, glancing at his watch barely a couple of minutes into his act. His material is good, and he has a neat ability to leave the punchline hanging in the air, but tonight his energy level just didn’t seem to be high enough.

All in all, an enjoyable evening that showed plenty of promise but didn’t quite deliver this time.
