After you take your seat, the lights go down, and for a moment, everything is dark and quiet. Then a bright spotlight comes on, and Toby Z. appears from behind a curtain as music begins to play. The next hour is filled with simple yet impressive magic tricks and mentalism that dazzled the audience and left them wondering, "How did he do that?"

Toby Z. was full of charm, with his bright smile and sleight of hand, and he seamlessly moved from one trick to the next. The pacing was slow at times, which wasn’t helped by the mellow (almost sombre) music playing in the background, and a few comedic beats felt repetitive. However, the fast-paced thematic music used for some of the tricks heightened the audience's anticipation and wonder

Throughout the show, Toby Z. did a fantastic job of audience engagement, picking from the front, back, left, right, and middle of the audience (no one was safe!). At some point throughout the show, almost half the crowd was called upon, whether to pick a fruit or a number, or to join the magician on stage. And a few lucky audience members even got to take home a prop as a souvenir.

Almost everyone is familiar, to one degree or another, with the tricks magicians play on their audiences (how else would magic seem like magic?). And Toby Z. uses this to his advantage, leading the crowd to believe they have figured out the trick, only to twist it around and subvert their expectations. Whether it’s your first or hundredth magic show, you’ll leave 0 Distance with Parlor Magic with awe as you try to unravel its mysteries.
