Clear away the tables and chairs, because you’ll want to be up and dancing for this one. The room was absolutely ecstatic with the energy of a rave. Bass pumping, audience jumping; SUBSPECTRA explore tracks from 90s DnB to modern DnB, including 'Off the Ground' by Sub Focus. SUBSPECTRA bring the genre to life with a range of keyboards, MIDI controllers, effects and of course, live drums, bass guitar and vocals.

I’m used to audience interaction with the MC in a boiler room set, but it was fantastic to experience so much more connection with the presence of each instrumentalist. I didn’t know I needed to hear a DnB remix of the Super Mario Bros theme song played live. A community formed amongst the audience as we all reacted euphorically to each build and beat drop. The small, intimate space of the Ellington was perfect for this type of gig.

I was highly impressed by the drummer, matching the speed and intensity of a metal rock concert. It’s incredible to witness all the parts of a DnB track being laid out before you. The human element adds a more expressive textural variation that no computer program will ever truly replicate.

This kind of event draws in a specific type of crowd; one that openly expresses their love of music, sharing massive grins and reaching for the roof. I loved being amongst so much happy energy and am grateful I got to have this unforgettable experience. What a wonderful celebration of music and creativity.
