I genuinely had no idea what to expect from this show, other than knowing Frisky (formerly one half of Frisky and Manish) would be at the helm. Slotted as the final show of the night at 10pm, it felt like the perfect wind-down after a packed day at the Fringe.
Drink in hand, we settled into the rather grand Spiegeltent in Bristo Square Gardens. The lights dimmed, the logo rose, and out came Frisky herself—oozing Marilyn Monroe glamour. At first, I thought we were in for a straightforward karaoke-with-a-great-singer affair: enjoyable, but nothing revolutionary. How wrong I was.

Frisky asked the audience to pick a decade. The sceptic in me assumed it would inevitably be the 80s (a classic “Paul McKenna trick” choice setup). She even gently nudged for the 60s, but the audience decision-maker stuck firmly to the 80s.
Cue “Like a Virgin.” Frisky then asked us to choose a musical style to reinvent it in—and that’s when the magic began. Suggestions flew in from all sides, including from Assembly staff who had clearly come to watch (always a good sign). The winning result? A swing-jazz version of “Like a Virgin” that had jaws dropping.
Later, we were treated to a goth rave mash-up of Missy.
Elliott’s “Get Your Freak On” with Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” and it was utterly, ridiculously brilliant. The band was flawless, Frisky’s vocals were sublime, and each genre flip felt genuinely fresh and unexpected.

It was so astonishingly good that I honestly want to return just to convince myself it wasn’t somehow rigged. Frisky’s Patreon even hosts recordings of past festival versions, which makes me believe it’s truly improvised every night.
If that’s the case, this is hands down the best live music show I’ve ever seen at the Fringe. Jaw-dropping, exhilarating, and utterly unmissable. I’ll be back—and every performance promises to be completely different.
