Picture this… you’re sitting in a dark theatre, in a sold-out show, on another glorious evening in The Pleasure Garden… and just like that, a giant vulva appears through the curtains, slinks her way onto the stage and for the next hour, takes you on a wild ride from sex-ed lesson, through to vaginally-inspired therapy. Does it get more Fringe than this?
That is CVNT - a one-woman show led by the hilarious, captivating, and mildly unhinged Sophie Power from Tarntanya/Adelaide. It takes a rare performer to hold an audience for a full hour while dressed as a sexy vulva and still keep things smart, sharp, and genuinely funny. Sophie pulls it off with ease. She is impossible to look away from - not just because of the costume, but because her comedic timing is impeccable and her presence on stage is completely magnetic.
The show leans heavily into audience participation, a bold move that flirts constantly with chaos. Sophie handles it like a pro, expertly putting people at ease while simultaneously making them squirm. One interaction on this night lingered a beat too long despite the clear resistance of an audience member, briefly flattening the pace. Thankfully, any awkwardness is swiftly redeemed by what might be the most unexpectedly liberating and frankly hilarious group therapy session you’ll ever attend.
It’s part cult, part catharsis, but certainly always CVNT.
