“Look at moi, look at moi” – no, seriously, look! Fountain Lakes are back, and they’ve brought their world premiere sequel, Fountain Lakes: Y2K, to FRINGE WORLD. Following the massive success of Fountain Lakes in Lockdown, this new show takes us on a hilarious trip back to 1999, a time when dial-up internet reigned supreme, everyone panicked about the millennium bug, and the term ‘PC’ was purely a computer thing.
The show is a lighthearted, feel-good romp that balances nostalgia with irreverent comedy. Kath, Kim, Sharon, and the rest of the gang are as lovable and ridiculous as ever. The costumes are fearless, the lip syncing is fabulous, and the performers bring an energy that has the audience laughing from start to finish.
Though some jokes are a little on the nose and a few scene transitions feel slightly awkward, these minor points rarely detract from the overall experience. When the humour lands, it lands hard. One standout moment is Kim’s nod to an iconic Sinead O’Connor music video; a reference so perfectly timed it had the audience in bits.
Overall, Fountain Lakes: Y2K is a joyous celebration of turn-of-the-millennium chaos and quirky Australian life. It’s fun, silly, and utterly unpretentious—a must-see for anyone who loves their comedy served with heart, nostalgia, and a side of absurdity.
