Most of us have probably heard of the phenomenon that is, The 27 Club - a morbid coincidence which links some of the world’s most revered and genre-defining musicians by one tragic fact – they all died at the age of 27.

It seems a simple concept for a show, but also an immense challenge, to capture the soul, the power and the impact that these artists produced. Showcasing the music of Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse is no easy feat, but 27 Club by Amplified House gives it a bloody good go.

The show strikes the perfect balance between history lesson, musical eulogy and entertainment. Each artist on stage is nothing short of excellent, and each brings their own personality and flair to the songs they sing – never trying to impersonate their source material, but bringing it to life in their individual and unique way.

The final song (I won’t tell you what it is) was a true highlight and one of my personal favourites. I spent the last quarter of the show wondering if and when they would play it, and after the final medley, I admit lost hope – until they brought it out as a belter of a finale, leaving behind a joyous and fulfilled audience.

Take yourself to see this show, and it may just take another little piece of your heart.
