Although Full Blown Irish is billed as an Irish stand-up comedy, it unfolded more as an international showcase, with two guest comedians offering amusing and illuminating sets about life from their diverse and distinctly non-Irish perspectives. Both were engaging and more conversational than riotous and I left having learnt more than I expected to. That said, the format wasn’t quite what the promotional material had led me to anticipate.
Mark O’Keeffe remained the strongest comedic presence of the night, delivering the sharpest timing and most assured laughs, but the overall experience felt more eclectic than the straightforward Irish comedy hour I had imagined. While it might not be what some might expect, the show offers a likeable mix of perspectives, anchored by a confident and charming Irish headliner with wide appeal.
I left amused and entertained, though slightly unsure of what show I had actually attended. There’s no doubt O’Keeffe has the comedic talent and charisma to drive the concept further and perhaps more sustained time spent in his own wonderfully skewed Irish lane would allow the “Full Blown” promise to reach its full potential. An enjoyable show if not entirely aligned with its billing.
