Queer comedy duo Mel & Sam bring their unhinged, high-energy, camp comedy to Lynott’s Lounge intimate stage set-up.
Despite the high energy and constant borage of insanity, the audience still feels connected to the performance in this small setting. Mel and Sam have such a natural charisma which results in their rapport with the audience being unmatched. It felt like we were all a part of the show, the same vibe as watching friends tell stories and crack us all up.
The show, The Platonic Human Centipede, is kind of about every kind of human connection but with a strong emphasis on duos. The show is strung together by voice recordings from their fathers introducing each new segment. These segments include; Mr and Mrs Claus in couples counselling, Bart and Lisa Simpson trying on hats, group destroying board games, longing for the most mid man in the theatre world and many more unpredictable skits.
The skits and music are incredibly well-written. There is not a single ounce of fat on the show, everything is so tight and doesn’t drag for a second. The stellar writing as well as the commitment from Mel and Sam to these insane bits make it even more joyous to watch. There is a niche, esoteric, queer gen-z nature to this show that, on paper, seems like a bad thing - but it couldn’t be less of a likeable show.
It is so fresh and invigorating to watch a performance from two young and exciting artists. I can only see incredible futures for the two of them, I am excited to follow their careers in the future! Please if you have a chance, go see this show!!!
